Why is it important to find Allies?

We all know that anti-LGBT bullying, violence and harassment are commonplace in school. Actual and perceived sexual orientation and gender expression are two of the top three reasons teens report that students are harassed at their schools, according to From Teasing to Torment: School Climate in America. Ally Week is all about encouraging people in your school community to take a stand against anti-LGBT behavior. Allies intervene in bullying situations, refrain from using anti-LGBT language, and educate on LGBT issues, which makes the school a safer and more respectful place for all students. And when you identify who your Allies are you can involve them in your organizing all year long!

gaypolitics:

Reporting from Raleigh, N.C.—
